The Case For Carl Crawford

I understand the need and excitement over Adrian Gonzales and Roy Halladay.
I also understand the need for Matt Holliday.
I want Carl Crawford.
Is he going to be difficult to obtain? yes. Is it possible? maybe. But we need to acquire him.
Crawford is still young and entering his prime. We could dump our prospects on Gonzales and quite frankly I'd be happy and fine. I'd love to have a power hitting gold glover at first. But imagine this. Reyes leading off, and Crawford batting second.
Could you even imagine the fear that would be in every opposing pitcher and catcher? Thats 100, 150 plus stolen bases right there. The dynamic boost that this would bring to run production and scoring would be something we could only dream of.
I may be making a bold statement, but I think Reyes and Crawford would be the most dynamic 1-2 punch of all-time. Can you think of a faster combo? Crawford has been walking more the past 3 seasons, and i can only hope that would continue to rise. He'll hit .300 steal 50-60 bases for your team, when coupled with a healthy reyes would be absolutely dynamic and beautiful to watch.
Citi field would be his playground. When paired with two gold glove outfielders (Beltran, Frenchy) his speed would be an absolute asset in left field, and take some pressure off the injury prone Beltran. This 3 outfield set would be exactly what Citi field needs. Less doubles, less triples and this outfield would be a blessing to our starting pitching. Not to mention how this would help him offensively. Let's face it, you aren't going to get 20 home runs from him, but you will see his doubles and triples rise in this new field. If the Mets unload their prospects on him, which i think they should, then they can try to sign 2 quality pitchers instead of trading for the older Halladay.
Come on Omar make it happen.

We would then have
Reyes- an incredible perennial threat to win the SB title each year
Castillo (if he stays)- an aging, yet good base stealer
Wright- a 30-30 man who lead the team with 27 Sb's last season
Crawford- his 60 sb's last year...need I say more?
Beltran- the most successful base-stealer of ALL TIME

This is a step in the right direction to field a team that can thrive and fully take advantage of Citi field.

  1. How do you call beltran injury prone when he hasn't played below 140 games in the last 8 seasons before this one?

  2. I say that based on the fact that his knees are, and have been an issue. Hopefully he makes a 100% recovery.

  3. You make it seem as if SBs are crucial to team success - they aren't. I like the idea of Crawford as well, but your focus on SBs is misguided. The SB is a negative value play if not achieved at least 75% of the time.

  4. Crawford would be good, but the prospects would be better served elsewhere. Pick up Crawford as a Free Agent maybe?

  7. Steals would be nice, but now our lineup has - Reyes and Crawford with 15 HR max a piece, Castillo with 1, catcher with unknown now but not likely more than 15, and who knows what from Beltran, Francoeur and Wright. Sounds like the thing everyone thought was lacking last year still is.

  9. Stolen bases alone will not win you a game, I know that, and I'm not saying they will, but it is a part of the game that could be very vital to a winning team (Ask Johnny Damon or Dave Roberts).

Power does not have to be measured in home runs. I believe Crawfords speed combined with other members of the Mets can create more run scoring possibilities. More opportunities will lead to more runs, how can it not?

With regards to pessimets.com, I had no idea it existed and had no intention of "ripping" off them, why would i need to?

  10. It's obvious the kid's just starting to blog, give him a break. How is he ripping off? He's ripping off words? Ok. Chill out it's the internet.

This post is about Carl Crawford. Would I mind if we get him? Nah, but I'm not sure if we could get him.

  11. My 2010 Mets Starters.
    S-Reyes-SS
    L-Crawford-LF
    R-Wright-3B
    L-AGonzalez-1B
    S-Beltran-CF
    R-Francouer-RF
    S-OHudson-2B
    R-BMolina-C
    Santana
    Lackey
    Wolf
    Pelfrey
    OPerez
That lineup settles the speed, power, glove, and avg issue. An IF of Gonzo, OHudson, Reyes, Wright is just sick. Plus it keeps the team fairly young. Give the farm. Trade for Gonzo n Crawford, pay for Lackey, Molina, and ODawg.
I think the ONLY non feasible thing is Gonzo n Crawford which would make us almost as excited as taking over Hef's role in the Playboy Mansion (not really). So IF we can't get em both..then buy Holiday n trade for Gonzo, buy Dye n trade for Gonzo, or do EXTREME incentive laden for Delgado at 1st, Get Glaus as help for him vs leftys, and do Crawford. I for one AM ALL for Crawford man! All for it!!
